BFlys

Planning For Your Future

As a trained Black feminist cultural anthropologist and African Diaspora Studies scholar, having taught for more than ten years combined at CUNY, Columbia University, and SUNY, Dr. Pinnock recognized that many students from marginalized backgrounds were having difficulty navigating college due to a lack of preparedness, confidence, and focus. BFLYS offers multifaceted curricula for high school, college, graduate students, and academic professionals to unpack the emotional baggage that’s holding them back. BFLYS creates safe spaces for clients to: (1) share their anxieties about the future; (2) acquire tools to identify their gifts and talents; and (3) develop a focused mindset towards academic and non-academic career goals.

About

I decided to start the BFLYS consultancy after experiencing many years of unnecessary academic violence and I came to the realization during my doctoral career that there were healthier ways to navigate higher ed with one’s sanity intact. I am a LGBTQ+ Affirming scholar who is deeply committed to helping college-bound, undergraduate, and graduate scholars succeed on academic and non-academic career paths. My firm also provides professional development workshops for academic professionals and K-12 educators. Through BFLYS, I attend to the socio-emotional needs of students and educators by utilizing a trauma-informed praxis that’s designed to help clients transform trauma-informed experiences into strategies of empowerment.

Assess and Strategize

At BFLYS we strongly believe that true growth is grounded in honesty. Our BFLYS Assessment Process not only helps clients to identify how they work, but we also support and cultivate strategies for empowerment so clients can build their (academic and non-academic) careers on strong foundations that clients are passionate about and committed to.

Assess

BFLYS uses self-evaluation workshops and individual consultations to encourage clients to identify their career goals from a space of truth to understand why they’ve made certain choices, and what is and is not working for them.

Strategize

We help clients honor themselves as people, (young) scholars, and professionals; develop the necessary tools, skills, and realistic knowledge production rituals that align with their lives; and craft empowerment strategies to meet career goals.
